GENGHIS KHAN : "ASIAN" DNA : THE KIDNAPPING OF BRIDES TODAY IN CENTRAL EUROPE IS PLAY!

I've been reading around DNA of the Hungarian people, and the people of the Carpathians, Romania, and Central and Eastern Europe.  The science is getting more and more sophisticated but I think what I read so far is an argument that there was once a lot of mixing - maybe before ethnic identities were tribal. 

I decided to watch GENGHIS KHAN -TERROR and CONQUEST which is an older Biography video, because of that question of "Asiatic" blood in some Hungarians.  This video didn't bring up the fact that he had hundreds of wives or concubines and  maybe 500 children so that Genghis's DNA is in a huge number of people today like I hoped but I still learned a lot.

13th century Asia - what is Mongolia today - was desert forest and grassland and the Chinese considered the place and the people that lived there "The Barbarians." (Seems to me the notion that the other tribe is the barbaric one prevails today!) The tribes there included the Mongols, the Merkits, the Tartars, and the Naimans, and they were all nomadic.  China had already built the famous Wall by then to keep these Barbarians out.

Though there are many accounts of Genghis Khan and his conquests written by Persian, Russian, and Chinese scribes,  there is only one, written soon after his lifetime, that is considered dependable.  The book is called "The Secret History of the Mongols." It begins by saying this bloodthirsty man was born with a clot of blood in his hand. 

No doubt Genghis' power came from his fearlessness to slaughter not just individuals but whole groups of people in the days when this was hand to hand combat and swords, before military battles were fought with guns or the weaponry we have now that distances soldiers from the place they bomb.

The story is also about the abduction of women and the rape of women and the revenge for doing so.

I learned long ago that many Hungarian marriage ceremonies into the 19th century (and perhaps beyond) play acted the abduction of a woman to be a bride, said to be the way it was done when the Hungarians were also nomadic.  The bride who had been sewing, weaving, spinning, and doing needlework, and saving for her life as a married woman since childhood, and who was probably marrying someone from her village that she had known since childhood, would kick, scream, cry out, and make a performance of it.

BUT HERE'S WHAT THEY'RE DOING IN BUCHAREST ROMANIA...   ALL THESE BRIDES WERE KIDNAPPED FROM THEIR OWN WEDDING PARTIES!

IN MANY PARTS OF THE WORLD TODAY KIDNAPPING WOMEN AND FORCING THEM TO BE MARRIED TO THEIR KIDNAPPER ISN'T JUST PLAYING!  And I can't help but wonder what my own DNA says about the women of my heritage and who kidnapped them!

35,000 people and counting have left behind their pets, livestock, valuable, homes, cars... the Balkans have historically been at war and now more people are effected than in the wars...  It is time to pull together, no matter what.

The experience of loss here is so profound, I ask myself what are these people going to do?

If there is money to rebuild, then they must consider the Climate Changes that seem to be wrecking havoc with the weather all over the world and they must build high up.  If natural features of geography do not allow this, then artificial mounds must be build.

  

MILLET - THE HUNGARIAN GRAIN THAT'S HEALTH FOOD

Reading around today's typical Hungarian diet, I came across SWEET MILLET as a breakfast food.

Although millet is most often associated as the main ingredient in bird seed, it is not just "for the birds." Creamy like mashed potatoes or fluffy like rice, millet is a delicious grain that can accompany many types of food.

WINE DRINKERS VERSUS BEER DRINKERS : HUNGARIAN / HUNGARIAN AMERICAN STEREOTYPES

I believe most Hungarian Americans are WINE DRINKERS and that BEER DRINKING is Germanic or Austrian!  This may be ridiculous, because there are wine making regions in these countries too, but it's correct in my experience.  Further I think if you're more Slavic, you'll be more interested in Vodka or hard liqueur!

Believe it or not, I hate beer.  I believe my entire life time intake of beer is not much more than two six pack.  I never buy it.  I never ask for it.  However, people meaning to be good hosts and hostesses have handed me a beer or offered me a beer, and each time this has happened I think "Maybe my taste buds will have changed." 

But they have not.

I think I've managed to get down an entire can or bottle a few times by sipping politely.  I've also gone to the ladies room and dumped some of it down the drain so I wouldn't have to drink the whole beer, more than once!  Letting a can sit without drinking it past a sip has been another one of my tactics of beer avoidance.

I am so beer adverse that years ago when some German friends invited me to go to a special bar that boasted hundreds of beers from around the world (while most of their patrons probably had Buds or Iron Cities or some other production line beer) and I ordered (do not laugh) a "whisky sour." 

It makes no difference to me if beer is ice cold or warm.  I hate it.

At the time that I ordered that Whisky Sour I knew of only two drinks based on what friends drank and those were a Whisky Sour or a Rum and Coke!  Maybe this is because I was raised to be a lady and the ladies were at the time ordering mixed drinks rather than beer.   Beer was for the men!

Tonic water made me want to gag.  I couldn't imagine imbibing any hard liquor "on the rocks!" 

Eventually I learned that I liked wine best, and to this day, though I drink rarely, I'm still trying various wines in some attempt to understand which ones I like best and why.

MY BUTTERFLY GARDEN IS NOT GROWING!

Over the last couple weeks I've had to accept it.  My butterfly garden that I blogged about a few weeks ago is simply not growing!  I ordered the seeds from a MONARCH BUTTERFLY CONSERVANCY PROJECT, set the seeds out in new soil and in my window and watered them carefully but just a couple of them took.  I carefully planted those seeds out of doors a couple weeks later, and I even put the ones that hadn't sprouted in soil outdoors as well.  I thought if the watering or light or heat was wrong in the house they would have a second chance, but no.

I GUESS I GOT SOME DUD SEEDS!

What now?

One day when I was walking down the street I came across some marigolds that had gone to seed, pulled some of the dry buds, and planted some of those.  THEY SPROUTED RIGHT UP!

So right now I have six giant marigolds that are growing.

All the tiny seeds that immediately sprouted indoors died once transplanted!

What happened to my "GREEN THUMB?"

or did I do everything right in the wrong weather?

EXCERPT: A couple of decades ago men poured water on women in rural areas and women changed their clothes after each sprinkling. Boys often dragged girls to the well and poured water on them with pail. Sometimes they washed them in creek.
The possible reason for this very old tradition is that people believed in the cleaning, healing and fertility effect of water. ...  There is a competition among young girls - who gets the most "sprinklers" wins. It is a shame if the girl is not ready early morning when the first visitor rings the bell.

 The result? Women wear more then a dozen of different colognes by Monday evening, and sometimes the alcoholic beverages are harmful for men also. Many times, sprinkling continues on the next day in the working places and we, women wait the evening desperately to wash our hair.
