MEMORIAL DAY : SHOULD REMEMBER THE OLD PRICE OF GROCERIES?

I'm not sure most Americans are celebrating Memorial Day as
a remembrance of those who lost their lives fighting in our wars.
Rather,
I think the day is perceived as a well earned day off,
and a day to greet summer and to have
a picnic or barbeque outdoors.

The grocers are jammed with people buying
hot dogs, chicken, ground meat for burgers, various
sodas and sparkling waters, fresh corn on the cob, eggs and potatoes for salad, and something else that has become unbelievably expensive lately : chips!

I suppose due to transportation costs, importing delays, the cost of living rising, and
an assortment of other issues, chips have become extremely expensive.

Looking closely at some of these products, it seems that the bags look about the same size but the ounces of product within has been reduced.

The leap of inflation has already made signs up at fast food restaurants
claiming up to $25. an hour pay a bit of a joke.
That's because a burger, fries, and a soda can easily cost $6.

HUNGARIAN FREEDOM FIGHTERS FEDERATION and the ALBA REGIA CHAPEL

HUNGARIAN FREEDOM FIGHTERS ORG

Excerpt: Hungarian Freedom Fighters Federation, is a non profit established to maintain the Alba Regia Chapel and surrounding memorial park in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.  The chapel is the only independent and non-denominational Hungarian church in the United States.  It is dedicated to the many Hungarian and American heroes who fought for freedom throughout the histories of both great countries.

Ilona Maria Gyorik, together with her husband, Jozsef and their four children, fled Hungary during the 1956 uprising against Soviet occupation. After narrowly escaping death, when Mrs. Gyorik reached Austrian soil, she vowed to devote the rest of her life to the service of mankind.

Did you know that Lilac trees have a female and a male and if you plant one and there is not one of the opposite sex fairly close by, they will never bloom?!

AN ODORLESS SALT LAKE INLAND : LAKE SZELID : WONDERFUL PLACES IN HUNGARY #11

Lake Szelid is a shallow lake - about 9 1/2 feet deep on the average - that was once part of the Danube.  Located in Southern Hungary in Bac-Kiskun County Great Plain region, Szelid is the country's fifth largest lake and a less known resort destination. In recent times a bike path has been constructed around the lake which is about two and a half miles by about a half mile.  Once considered a summer location, the renewed bike path which is being kept clean and de-iced, is usable past the season. Unlike so many hot mineral waters that people soak in for healing, Lake Szelid does not smell like sulfur. (However, I personally do not know if I would want to soak and fish in the same water and apparently some big fish have been caught, maybe all the bathers scare them!)  In fact, the alkaline water is thought to feel velvety!

HAS COVID CANCELLED OR DELAYED YOUR PLANS TO TRAVEL?

The news that some of the senior centers in my area are reopening and to the point of providing hot lunches was good news.  To me this is a sign that the world is reopening after two and a half years of Covid shut downs. Seniors were especially hard hit with the disease. People in assisted living homes and nursing homes were especially vulnerable to death, especially before there were any vaccines.  So for older people to start gathering and sharing meals (sans coverings over their nose and mouth) is an excellent sign that this thing is closer to over.

After having gone through 100 pre-made masks that were purchased in boxes, as well as picking up some that were free (tight and uncomfortable), having sewn some and been gifted some that are washable, I'm so to the point where I don't want to buy any more or wear any more masks.  That said, the library, the shuttle bus, and several other places that I go still require masks.

I would like to travel.

I think I'm going to start locally, as soon as I can verify that certain gardens, historical sights, and museums are open. In the mean time the only way to travel is through reading books, which only requires some time, some light, and a library card.
