NEW YORK TIMES - EUROPE MORE RIGHT WING? (IMPRESSIVE STATS CHARTS!)
Take a look at these charts where it appears that there are more "right wingers" in Hungary than any other European country and then ask yourself when it comes to values and ethics what does "RIGHT WING" really mean?
I think the terms "LEFT WING" or "RIGHT WING" are subjective and those who might not have changed their values and ethics at all, and who were basically like just about everyone else in their neighborhood, city, state, or country, might be considered RIGHT WING TODAY but have been considered MODERATE or even LIBERAL A DECADE OR TWO AGO.
For instance, do you believe ideally that first you get married and then you have children?
To me this is the case in point. Because you ask yourself, what about sex? What about contraception? What about abortion? Is it OK to have unmarried sex when you're engaged to be married? What if you don't try it? What if you don't like it? What happens if you become pregnant and then are not married or deserted by the father? Will he prove to be responsible and admirable?
Consider that what is personal to us always political too. It's an ongoing battle of sorts. We effect the bigger picture as individuals and the bigger picture effects us.
That's why participatory Democracy is so important.
When thousands of people have children they are not responsible for, then who supports them? And for how long? And if a certain ethnic group or religion lives in such a way that you don't agree with their way of life but are forced to support their way of life financially, then what?
I'm using this example because I was raised to marry first, then have children, and the reason given to me was religious. At this time in my life the same value is not so religious but pragmatic. I've lived long enough to see how single mothers with children who have been abandoned by the men who made them pregnant struggle.
My neighbor down the street and I just had a long talk about this the other day. She is in with her mother who is very unhappy with her but also interfering in her raising her son. I witnessed and overheard this repeatedly; the mother is giving mixed signals to the child, putting her down for her daughter's mothering skills in front of him and all the neighbors, and going against her when she tells her mother "Now is his time for a nap!" It doesn't help that this is yet another child who I call "Atomic!" He's the size of a five year old at age 2 so people look at him expecting him to be more mature than he is. He's cranky! He's not obedient! But the mother is putting her down saying the child cries because he "has no friends." At age 2 do we have to be popular among 2 year olds? There is only one other on the street and he's growing up in a Moslem family.
She wants to live separate but can't find an affordable place. So I thought perhaps I could introduce her to another woman in a similar situation and they could work out an affordable living situation. So far they are both tentative about this.
She tearfully told me about a three month trip to the state of Georgia where the father of her child, her ex, now lives. It's so much more affordable than Southern California, the weather isn't too bad, the winters are not severe usually, and she even thinks she could find a job more quickly, maybe even someday be able to afford a small house on her own. Her son would get to know his father, who wants that. It would be "good bye" to her controlling mother.
However, while she was visiting two things happened that upset her. She went to a pharmacy to fill a prescription for herself and one for her son and learned her medical insurance would not pay in that state. She also noticed that people were staring at her as she walked aside the father of her son, who is not White. Can she really live with that kind of scrutiny? Here in California it's generally more acceptable to have a mixed race child or date or marry someone of another race. (In particular, it seems like Jewish men are marrying Asian women, even importing them from China for marriage.)
I personally could never tell a pregnant young woman she must have an abortion but am pro-choice. What if she had no mother to take her in or lived in a state that will not help her at all? Would Southern California become like India, where there are so many people begging and living in the streets - living and dying there? Or dare I say Romania not too long ago: I know of a group of people here who all adopted orphans from Romania who get together with their adopted children and are hoping that somehow these children will also get to know their Romanian heritage. Many of these parents are single but of a professional, higher income group. In their case the misfortune of a single mother in Romania was their good fortune.
So when I see news that parts of Europe are threatened by immigrants who do not share values and ethnics I think that people must look at all of it closely, and personally, and they must also look upon "the stranger" with their spiritual or religious values!

MELANIA CAN DO WHATEVER SHE FEELS WITH HER FACE
If you've been reading MAGYAR-AMERICAN BLOGSPOT, then you know that my feeling is that even if we do not like President Trump, we should show respect for the office of the Presidency of the United States which he won (and Hilary Clinton lost) fair and square!
If you read the news at all, then you know that lately the criticisms and speculations about President Trump extend to his wife, First Lady Melania Trump. The fashions a woman in public life wears seem to always be up for discussion in the press, and in this case Melania was once a fashion model so it makes sense to me that she is expected to wear the perfect outfit for every occasion. I actually prefer a softer look on women overall, so I like her flared pants outfits and don't like those huge belts and pencil shirts, but OK, she seems to savvy about appearing modest while not actually hiding her figure, but she doesn't have to dress to please me. Now there is criticism of her face because she is not always smiling. Melania's face appears sad, bored, upset, tired, etc. I've looked at those pictures and I can't always be sure of this but so what?
As someone who has been at times bothered by people telling her to smile, I feel the need to defend Melania (and all women) who are expected to show approval and happiness with smiles on their faces all their waking hours, and perhaps while they sleep too.
There are cultural expectations of what we do with our faces. But we OWN our feelings and we OWN our faces. Society does not. Men do not. We are not all performers.
I think I have a bit more insight into why Melania isn't always smiling, and it has nothing to do with the state of her marriage, which believe it or not I think is exactly as they want it to be, which is all that matters really. (Who cares if they happen to not share a bed. I can tell you that many loving couples just wish they could afford separate bedrooms and beds.) You see, Melania is from a Slavic culture and the Slavs have always kept to a more serious (which is considered NATURAL) countenance. A serious state of mind is actually more respected in Slavic cultures than it is in the United States. Seriousness means intellectualism. It means a person is thinking. It also means compassion and respect for others in many situations. For instance, witnessing a speech is a historical moment that deserves that seriousness. It also means the person can be trusted.
"Smiley Smiley" types are considered to be a bit suspicious. I recall one woman who was a friend of mine who was like that. Oh everyone looooved her. She sure did screw me over in business!
"Smiley Smiley" types are sometimes thought to be in the serving, pleasing professions (like airline stewards, waitresses, hotel desk clerks, and people employed in tourism) or always trying to sell something (your new best friends who has such a deal for you!), which could even be their own selves, and a bit pathetic. Even they don't have to smile all the time in their private lives.
Consider this: If you need to submit paperwork for a passport of Visa ask and you'll learn smiling for your picture is not a good idea if you're going to Russia and many other countries because these countries do not like suspicious people.
I think Melania is beautiful but I know that Americans think Slavic women have a severe look. Some Slavic women including Donald Trumps first wife Ivanna, had cosmetic surgery in order to look a bit less severe. (And daughter Ivanka reportedly had her nose redone.) Trump has his "type" though. He thinks Slavic women are beautiful. And in recent years the Slavic fashion models have been in great demand. While modeling, a photographer may ask a woman to strike a pose and tell her what to do with her face. Then she gets paid.
Hungarians are not Slavs, but many have married with Slavs for generations, so that ethnically Hungarian women sometimes look more Slavic than those who have not.
Also take a look at Queen Elizabeth of Great Britain who seems in pictures to always be smiling as she both serves her Country and Promotes (Sells) the Royal Family as necessary to Great Britain and much of the world. If you have seen the rare serious look on her face you will know that her natural countenance in profile is more pensive. Her lips do not turn up at the corners when her mouth is at rest. Our First Lady is simply not the people pleaser people think she should be and owns herself more than some people like.
So let's move on to the IMPORTANT ISSUES of this Presidency, because believe me when I say that more people are upset about proposed budget cuts to social services that provide food, medical care, housing, and the like, than our First Lady's face!

PRINCE CHARLES of ROMANIA?
UPDATE JULY 2019 Here is a genealogy chart that shows how Prince Charles and his lineages are related to Vlad the Impaler and other nobility of Hungary.
FAB PEDIGREE - of ANNA LONYAY - to PRINCE CHARLES - VLAD THE IMPALER
PRINCE CHARLES, too long awaiting the Throne in Great Britain, has reportedly, as of last month, been offered a new title; Prince of Transylvania. Usually I link to article or articles on something like this, but having read many of them, each of them getting more outrageous, one suggesting he will be King of Romania if Queen Elizabeth doesn't die soon, I think I'll just sum it up.
The Prince, who claims ancestry to infamous Vlad the Impaler, by about 15 generations, loves Romania, has purchased a nice big house in Romania (big but by no means a castle), is in harmony with the agricultural outlook of organic farmers in that country, and has extended his generosity through his Foundation, to benefit the country. One article suggests he's done a lot for tourism and for a fee, you too can romp through his wildflower fields.
The ancestry is said to come from his Grandmother Mary, however, I thought it was his Mother, Queen Elizabeth who claimed Hungarian ancestry through Saint Margaret of Hungary, as she married into the Scottish Royal family long ago. Well, be it one or two lines, 15 generations or so, Prince Charles is well regarded in Romania, and the country is said to be wistful of those days before their own royalty was abolished. Would the Prince care to have a 17th title?
Oh, why not? In my opinion this is a man who has had a life long struggle to be happy. If he can be happy in Romania, why not pack up and leave Britain? The Queen may have made a vow to God Almighty that she will serve until she's dead, but I say take a hint from Pope Benedict and step down responsibly.
Looking at many photos of the Prince here and there in Romania through the years, 1988 being sited as the year he fell in love with the country, I must say that he looks more RELAXED than he does in many other photos, when he is there. I think Romania is just far enough away from Duty for him, and a great place to live a bit more normal life.
Besides there is so much GERMAN in the British Royal Family and so much GERMAN in Romania - and Hungary!

100th ANNIVERSARY of THE HOLY VISIONS at FATIMA - Another Miracle Revealed?
Since the 100th anniversary of the Miracle at Fatima - Portugal is upon us, there's been a lot of news about this event. There wasn't just one sighting, there were a series of meetings back in 1917. The World War I era.
If you're interested in listening to a recent program about the controversial "3rd Secret" you might want to go to YouTube and search for Coast to Coast AM - Fatima. - Guest Peter Levenda.
First check the story by Joseph Ronechen concerning the miraculously untangled rosaries.
NATIONAL CATHOLIC REGISTER - EYEWITNESS of THE DAY THE SUN DANCED
TEASER/EXCERPT: The woman continued her miracle story. “People put their rosaries on the ground. They knew what way the Blessed Mother would face, and they put their rosaries out there in front of the place. [The pile of] rosaries were shaped like a cross. [After the apparition] There were so many that when everybody went to get their rosaries, they were all tangled up. And they were trying to find the right rosary.

Of course it's said that 70,000 people assembled to see the Miracle of the sun dancing in the sky. (I do wonder about the size of the crowd simply because sometimes these estimates grow through the years.) Many people have since thought that maybe this was a UFO, specifically an alien spaceship and that the Blessed Mother apparition was either a hologram, the actual Blessed Mother (perhaps in her energy rather than corporeal body), or an alien acting as a Blessed Mother. These science oriented skeptics of course think there is some conspiracy with the Catholic Church. With a massive world wide number of Catholics, what a great way to get the message across that Russia would need to go back to being prayerful and Catholic?

What does it take to become a Catholic Saint? Martyrdom for the Faith, a life of amazingly impactful works, or - the clincher - miracles of healing attributed to you. Two of the Fatima children, who died not long after the apparitions, which was one of the things the Blessed Mother told the children, have been canonized by Pope Francis.
NATIONAL CATHOLIC REGISER : FRANCISCO and JACINTA of FATIMA CANNONIZED
EXCERPT: Pope Francis on Saturday officially declared Francisco and Jacinta Marto saints of the Catholic Church in front of hundreds of thousands of pilgrims at the Fatima Shrine in Portugal — teaching that even young children can become saints.
“For the honor of the Blessed Trinity, the exaltation of the Catholic faith and the increase of the Christian life, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, and of the holy apostles Peter and Paul, and our own, after due deliberation and frequent prayer for divine assistance, and having sought the counsel of many of our brother bishops, we declare and define Blesseds Francisco Marto and Jacinta Marto to be saints,” Pope Francis exclaimed May 13 as the crowd roared with applause.

Every day there seems to be another announcement of the discovery of another planet or moon of a planet that has the chemistry that we think is necessary for some form of life - even if it be tiny microbes. So to me it is entirely possible that we are not alone in the universe. And if there are beings like us, then the Creator must have created them too. But are they Good Guys or Bad Guys? Do they want to help us earthlings advance scientifically or spiritually? If they're visiting our planet, I sure hope so!

DOES ANYONE KNOW OF AN EXCELLENT BOOK ON ANCIENT HUNGARIAN SHAMANISM to RECOMMEND? MUSHROOMS?
I feel sure that the Ancient Hungarians (the people, likely several tribes, who came in from somewhere else, following that White Stag, and marrying White Fairy Women, were pagan, and practiced shamanism. I would like to read about this, rather than about the Neo-Pagans in Hungary (though they are interesting too), and in English, though if you know of the definitive book and a great translator, let me know.
In particular, shamans in Native American and other cultures seem to use some sort of hallucinogen that is easy enough to find or brew up in their own local. So that means Datura in Southern California and Mexico. (There are many types but it's basically a plant with a white bell shaped flower. Having taken many hikes in the Santa Monica mountains and in the Malibu I know how to identify it. Sometimes it just grows aside the road. I wouldn't dare try it.)
Peyote, I believe was used by certain Native American tribes, as well as 1960's rock stars, as an organic, rather than "acid."
I've heard of people licking poison toads in jungles. There's a particular vine that is used in the Amazon. And no doubt there were some witches in Europe who applied some unguent they knew how to make from plants that sent them flying on their brooms, even if they were laying around a hut at the time in their physical body. I've read that MUSHROOMS were used in Russia by the Slavs.
On the West Coast of the United States there are rain forests in the redwood tree growth areas where MUSHROOMS grow that might also be handled and ingested carefully. So I suspect that the ancient Hungarian shamans probably used some sort of MUSHROOM, but I could be wrong, because perhaps they brought plants and knowledge with them from the mysterious place(s) they left.
Having studied a bit about the Native Americans of Southern California and the South West United States, I've learned that sometimes the use of hallucinogens was a once in a lifetime experience, a rite of passage for boys, for instance, and that maybe only one or two shamans in the tribe used plants to have wild experiences using them. The notion that having a "trip" that's outside normal reality is a spiritual experience is nothing new.
So - What should I read? Or maybe I should be asking, "WHAT DO YOU KNOW?"

THIS BROKE THAT BROKE - AND WATER NOT FROM THE TAP
I've just gone through a spate of things breaking. I have a whole list of things I need to take a screwdriver or glue or a hammer to.
We've had some high winds and a lot of broken branches and leaves were all over. Before the gardener was scheduled to come, I decided to take a broom to it, before some passerby threw a match or cigarette into the pile. The broom broke. The head of it came free of the handle.
I went to the store around the corner to fill up my gallon jugs with water at the machine there. (Some people think this is a waste of money. I like to make my tea and coffee with this purified water or spring water. The going rate is currently 30 cents a gallon. A new gallon of spring water "from the source" goes for between 89 cents for the store brand to $1:50 or higher for specific California source brands. There is a Mexican brand that actually used to list the mineral content for about as much for a litter. I recently found it at a Mexican oriented market for $1.59 and there was no longer a list so I have no idea if it is still a mineral water. We also have in the stores the French mineral water, water that comes from Armenia, on occasional Poland or Russia or Israel.)
I was rolling this home when the handle of the wheeled cart broke off. Right in front of my local police officer who patrols on foot. (I could have used a short ride home in the patrol car! Wouldn't my long necked neighbors love that!)
I've been writing some letters and keep paper and envelopes in a small cabinet with two doors. One of the brackets on one of the doors broke off.
Then there is my heavy duty dark brass look metal clothes rack with the shoe rack beneath.
I got this when the pole in the big closet let loose from where it was anchored in the plaster.
I looked at it and it was swayed to one side. (Maybe the old wire hangers are lighter that the plastic?)
I got some new ceramic pots at a garage sale, and had some aside that I bought last fall. Started to replant, and moved my wooden window box down to the ground. It cracked.
I loath throwing anything away without trying to fix it or finding some way to recycle it.
