The birth of "Baby Sussex" to Prince Harry and Los Angeles born and raised Meghan Markle, also known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (Great Britain), this morning, became a world wide news event and one I was following. After all, Ms. Markle was born and raised in Los Angeles. She's into Yoga. She loves her mom. And, like it or not, she comes with the another side of the family that seems uncouth in their willingness to cash in through becoming news themselves. Of course, that she is biracial and that their child will be about one quarter of African heritage is interesting too. Although these days there are articles that state that it's possible that more than one of Harry's ancestors was of East Indian descent or African descent via the Moors of Portugal.
Reading around Baby Sussex, I started reading around about royalty and nobility, in magazines such as Hello, Vanity Fair, and so on.
And I got back into my own personal Hungarian Genealogy.
Although every few months I check to see what's new on certain genealogy databases and certain websites, I unearthed some hand drawn charts, that I did years ago.
Some of the surnames on them are the surnames of nobility though I cannot say my particular lineages ever were. The search for a noble ancestor is also a search to continue following a line since so much more information was collected and kept regarding nobility than common folk.

DUKE and DUCHESS OF SUSSEX EXPECTING ANY DAY - THE HUNGARIAN LINK TO QUEEN ELIZABETH and ROYAL GRANDCHILDREN

Hello Friends. Since this post gets a lot of hits, I thought to say a little more about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex who have made the Santa Barbara - Los Angeles adjacent California their home. I can't say every American "has their back," but I can say that most Americans respect their wish to make their own money and not be dependent on Britain or the Royal Family. As well, I think there is interest in their children who are no doubt being raised as Americans with British heritage. I tend to think that in America there is a general interest in genealogy and genetics (DNA) and with that comes interest in what is inherited biologically - without such interest being automatically taken as an "ism." For instances, there is curiosity in what children who have been born by surrogate look like (such as Paris Hilton and her husband's children) and immense interest in the Kardashians and their children and who they look like. My heritage does not include people who were slaves in the United States or any recent or traceable persons of "African"/ Black heritage so I don't know exactly what it is like to have that heritage, but I try to have empathy for the sensitivity some people have. In general I do not think of this curiosity about who children look like is racism. Racism to me involves not just noticing but also actively going against a person or a group of people for their racial heritage, ethnic heritage, or how they look. Living in a "mixed" culture in California, I think people here are overall quite liberal in attitude. I have no strong opinion on if or who anyone in the Royal Family is racist and find it all rather interesting.
Here at Magyar-American I play (in what I hope is a humorous way) with the various stereotypes of Hungarians and Hungarian-Americans, some of which I've experienced and some which I have been told abut by others. I hope my readers take those posts into consideration - and in stride. Please leave comments if you have an opinion!

Queen Elizabeth is partly Hungarian, and Prince Charles has gotten himself a little vacation home in Romania - Transylvania area - where so many Hungarian nobles once lived as part of the more mountainous region referred to as "Royal Hungary" which also includes present day Slovakia.) Of this I read various opinions about how the locals feel but it seems he himself loves it there when he visits. (And where I suspect he gives himself time off from being Prince Charles.)
The connection with the aristocracy and nobility of Hungary comes from one of Queen Elizabeth's great great grandmothers (1/16th) who was Countess Klaudina Zsuzsanna Thedy de Kis-Rhede (1812-1841). (Nick Gombash at Hungary Exchange has an impressive chart of lineage in which you can follow and perhaps you too will link to the British Royal Family.)
And so Baby Sussex will have among it's ancestors a bit of the Hungarian nobility as well as once upon a time African slaves brought to America.
Of interest to Hungarian-Americans also is the present day Princess Micheal of Kent.

PRINCE CHARLES of ROMANIA?
UPDATE JULY 2019 Here is a genealogy chart that shows how Prince Charles and his lineages are related to Vlad the Impaler and other nobility of Hungary.

PRINCE CHARLES, too long awaiting the Throne in Great Britain, has reportedly, as of last month, been offered a new title; Prince of Transylvania. Usually I link to article or articles on something like this, but having read many of them, each of them getting more outrageous, one suggesting he will be King of Romania if Queen Elizabeth doesn't die soon, I think I'll just sum it up.
The Prince, who claims ancestry to infamous Vlad the Impaler, by about 15 generations, loves Romania, has purchased a nice big house in Romania (big but by no means a castle), is in harmony with the agricultural outlook of organic farmers in that country, and has extended his generosity through his Foundation, to benefit the country. One article suggests he's done a lot for tourism and for a fee, you too can romp through his wildflower fields.
The ancestry is said to come from his Grandmother Mary, however, I thought it was his Mother, Queen Elizabeth who claimed Hungarian ancestry through Saint Margaret of Hungary, as she married into the Scottish Royal family long ago. Well, be it one or two lines, 15 generations or so, Prince Charles is well regarded in Romania, and the country is said to be wistful of those days before their own royalty was abolished. Would the Prince care to have a 17th title?
Oh, why not? In my opinion this is a man who has had a life long struggle to be happy. If he can be happy in Romania, why not pack up and leave Britain? The Queen may have made a vow to God Almighty that she will serve until she's dead, but I say take a hint from Pope Benedict and step down responsibly.
Looking at many photos of the Prince here and there in Romania through the years, 1988 being sited as the year he fell in love with the country, I must say that he looks more RELAXED than he does in many other photos, when he is there. I think Romania is just far enough away from Duty for him, and a great place to live a bit more normal life.
Besides there is so much GERMAN in the British Royal Family and so much GERMAN in Romania - and Hungary!
