Math being my worst subject, I wondered if I could follow this DVD/ Film (C 2004) that I found on the shelf of my local library. "N is a Number" is a documentary by George Paul Csisery about Paul Erdos, one of those geniuses living in their own mind - obsessed with math to the exclusion of much else. Luckily the film didn't require that I follow along on any formulas that I would get lost in and never find my way out of. Instead I learned about this unique human being who liked to throw out problems to others and speculate, and was not overly concerned with his theories or ideas being proven.
Paul Erdos (1913-1996) had no home and no job. He never married or had children. He was close to his mother and may've had a romance that went nowhere.
He Traveled from place to place sponsored and patronized by various other mathematicians, and before it was all over he had published over 1000 papers and received an honorary doctorate from Cambridge University, Great Britain. The film held my interest without my having to understand the math.
